6 luxuries to forgo on a holiday
When planning your holiday, you will find many upgrades and luxuries that are available to you. Some of the more expensive luxuries are very wasteful and really don’t make that big of a difference when you are traveling. However, some luxuries may appear to make travel a bit easier. Below are the top 6 luxuries that can easily be forgone the next time you are planning your holiday.
A First Class Ticket
Unless you are taking a long flight, there is really not that much difference between a first class ticket and economy (or even coach). Sure, you will have a bit more leg room and will be closer to the exit, but saving the money will allow you to spend it on other things.
Bottled water is usually a waste of time in any circumstance, but it is especially wasteful when traveling. In order to save money, carry a refillable bottle with you and fill it up whenever you find yourself in need of a drink. This is also a great option for sightseeing adventures once you reach your destination. However, this tip only applies in countries where potable water is readily available. Don’t be a scrooge and filter melted snow for your free refill.
Pre-Flight Drinks (or on the flight for that matter)
Unless flying makes you nervous, alcoholic beverages at airports and on the plane are very expensive. If you are looking to save money on your trip, wait until you arrive at your destination to start the party. Getting there is usually not very fun and spending money now will limit what you can spend later.
One of the best places we all know to get our alcohol is at the duty-free shops. Buy your fill there, and wait till you reach your destination before you pop the champagne and celebrate a long week of partying and exciting adventures.
Of course, travelling takes time and with the amount of layovers that are typically seen, you may not be able to avoid eating at the airport. However, if at all possible eat before you arrive or wait until you land at your destination. Airport food is expensive and you will be able to save quite a bit of money elsewhere. And we’re just talking about the food at the airport. Airline food is sometimes unavoidable on long-haul flights.

Hotel Rooms with a View
Let’s face it, how many times have you woke up and gazed longingly out the window of your hotel window? More than likely, you sped through the getting dressed process and sprinted out the door to your big adventure. Unless you are in a location where you intend on spending time at your window, you can pass on this one and save the money.
If you’re renting a villa by the sea in the Maldives or the Bahamas, you should enjoy the view as much as possible. If you’re heading to a concrete jungle holiday destination which gets you a room with a view of the other side of the hotel wall, you might as well not go through the hassle and save that money.
By eliminating some (or all) of these luxuries, you have the opportunity to save money and enjoy more things on your actual vacation. Just remember that any amount of money that you save on the travel process can be spent on souvenirs and other items during your actual vacation.
