More than 800,000 Filipino private students received government help

The government statement indicated they have provided assistance to about 809,000 high school students in private schools over the period mentioned.

ASIA / The Philippines – The Department of Education in the Philippines have issued a statement on the Government Assistance for Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) in School Year (SY) 2013-2014. The government statement indicated they have provided assistance to about 809,000 high school students in private schools over the period mentioned.

According to the statement, this number constitutes over 50% of the total secondary private schools enrolment last year. More than 90% of the 809,000 ESC beneficiaries were enrolled in private schools outside Metro Manila. The Department of Education has  increased the subsidy for students in private schools outside Metro Manila—from P6,500 to P7,500 (USD$172) per student per year in early 2014.
